GHESKIO proudly congratulates Rose Cardelle Riche, MPH, Certified Midwife, on receiving the 2026 Luc de Bernis Midwifery Award, presented by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) during its 34th Triennial Congress in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Luc de Bernis Midwifery Award recognizes exceptional midwives whose work advances quality, equitable care for women and newborns in some of the world’s most challenging humanitarian settings. Named in honor of the late Dr. Luc de Bernis, a global champion for maternal and newborn health, the award celebrates midwives whose leadership reflects excellence, compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to improving the lives of women and families.
Rose was recognized for her leadership of GHESKIO’s Adolescent Mothers Clubs, an innovative community-based program that supports pregnant and parenting adolescents living with HIV. Through comprehensive prenatal care, peer support, health education, psychosocial services, and interventions to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission, the program empowers young mothers to care for themselves and their children while improving long-term health outcomes.
Her award-winning poster presentation, Adolescent Mothers Clubs: Community Cohort Care to Prevent Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission in Haiti, highlighted GHESKIO’s integrated model of care, which combines clinical excellence with education, counseling, and community engagement to support some of Haiti’s most vulnerable young women.
Rose’s international recognition reflects not only her dedication and compassion, but also GHESKIO’s longstanding commitment to advancing maternal and child health through innovative, evidence-based programs. Even amid Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, GHESKIO continues to develop models of care that improve health outcomes, strengthen families, and create brighter futures for women and children.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Rose on this well-deserved honor and thank her for her extraordinary commitment to the adolescents, mothers, and families she serves every day.
